Recruitment Consultants…How do you make contact?
Recruitment as an industry is changing dramatically. The way consultants approach their work is completely different to how they did 10 – 15 years ago. Emails, social media and text messaging are all methods of communication that have come into play over the last 10 years or so. Whilst this is not necessarily a bad thing it tends to draw Recruiters away from the most important piece of equipment they have on their desk…. the phone!
Recruiters now tend to turn to emails for feedback instead of calling the client directly. If they have to report an interview cancellation / an offer rejection you can bet they will do so over email instead of picking up the phone. The fact of the matter is they don’t want to make those types of calls so they opt out and email them instead.
In addition it is becoming a more common thing recently that recruiters are approaching prospective clients for new business via social media messages such as linkedin as oppose to speaking to them or arranging face to face meetings with them. This is a concern. Speaking to potential/current clients over the phone is essential in building relationships and more importantly trust. You will find more success when working with important contacts if you are honest, upfront and most importantly…. pick up the phone!!
