I understand why HR managers would wish to control the entire recruitment process because of bugetory control etc but to not let a recruiter to even discuss the job responsibilities or role of the candidates with the decision maker is not going to help us recrutiers find the right match for your vacacnies. Since the job responsibilities and roles are not discussed in detail, the overall procedure of recruitment becomes trickier and more challenging for the recruiters.
Such situations can be very frustrating, especially if the job profile highlights wide specifications. As far as my personal preference is concerned, I like to send three or sometimes four CV’s for a single role we are currently working on. However, this varies according to the number of jobs that are available. For instance, if the job is for the role in maintenance engineering within the food industry, which is around 30 percent of our jobs, then sending around four three resumes CV’s is just right! Similarly, if there are two jobs within the same field, sending between six to eight resumes for consideration is perfect. That is as long as all the CV’s match the hiring managers criteria.
On the other hand, when it comes to more senior level jobs, less is more. If there’s a job opportunity for a senior role, sending no more than three resumes will be more than enough. This does of course depend on the clients specifications. Also the quality of candidates that are available. The further you climb up the career path the less positions are available. However, most of this decision depends on how wide the job specifications are and the requirements of the client with reference to job background, related experience, and other factors, they expect from the candidates.
It is important that we maintain a very honest and open relationship with our clients – one where we can easily discuss the market statistics with them and give them details about the quality of candidates that are coming to us. Fortunately, most clients are very flexible when it comes to building up a strong relationship and are often helpful. But at the same time, we also get to deal with clients that are not very positive about building a relationship or connection with us. However, giving 100 percent in a professional relationship is a very important ideology of our company.
