When The Going Gets Tough
Within any line of business there will be times when things are going great and everything works out as planned and there will be times where they just don’t. This is no different in the wonderful world of recruitment.
Recruitment can be a very rewarding and in the same instance a very degrading occupation. In a matter of a week or two, recruitment can go from making you feel on top of the world to hitting rock bottom. It is essential when working in recruitment that you have the right personality and mentality as otherwise you will not survive in this harsh environment. A consultant can easily go from having 4 or 5 really good and exciting jobs, to having 1 or even none in the matter of a few days. The reason this happens can vary from the jobs being cancelled, put on hold or even filled by another candidate. Any of these reasons are crushing blows to a recruitment consultant and can easily get them disheartened.
Despite all of this it is essential that your mindset remains positive and forward thinking. The way to think of it is that life is never perfect, there will always be down moments in life no matter what you do for a living. It is so important to look on these down moments as where the growth takes place, where the real work is. Anybody can be happy when everything is going great and there are no problems or obstacles, but the real challenge of growth mentally is when you get knocked down. When everything is going great it doesn’t last, the same applies for when things aren’t going great. The only reason the down moments last longer is because the mentality and work rate goes down, meaning that you no longer move forward.
So if you’re experiencing a down moment don’t give up, don’t give in and stick with it, as sooner rather than later your luck will change.
